Oh yeah, if you go off the main routes, you can find some local restaurants. Great for families!

go in january, february, march to see the city as it really is, it may be chilly but it won't packed with tourists. it gets so packed in the summer you can't enjoy the city. it will be hard to find a toilet or comfortable place to eat. in august all of italy goes on vacation for the month. germany and france also have mandatory by law 1 month a year min. vacations for workers, so i think you get the idea.
Thanks for the tips. Going back to Venice this summer. Last time I was there, I did not enjoy or appreciate it very much because it was raining, flooded, and I was walking on planks. I ate at a restaurant as well…and the food wasn’t that great. I will be staying there longer this time around and can’t wait to explore the islands (including Murano, Burano, and Torcello) a little more. Any restaurant suggestions?
