Restaurant Eating in Italy | Culture Shock (VIDEO)
Food etiquette in Italy can be very different to what you’re used to, and tourists often come back with a sour taste in their mouth because they misinterpreted a situation at a restaurant, or didn’t get what they expected. A lot of the time there’s an explanation for the things that happen, and it comes down to culture clashes. So in this video I’ll be talking to you guys about the most common misconceptions tourists have when they sit down to eat at an Italian restaurant.
8PM? Bullshit we eat at like 6:30–7:00 and finish by 9:30–10:00
Parli Inglese benissimo, ti tradiscono i lineamenti da pasta e fagioli.
Same in Japan for the waiters
Quanto è bello essere riconosciuti nel mondo ( ps. i'm from Genova )
everything is wrong with italy
Se chiedi per un bicchiere d'acqua di solito te lo danno o dal rubinetto o da una bottiglia che tengono dietro il bancone e non te lo fanno pagare
For better or worse, Italy it seems will never change. As an ex-Italian, I can't believe that Italians can't stop living in the past with their idiotic habits and customs.
8 pm to 2 AM???????!!
Do I tip the waiters while I’m there? Also for water, would it be rude to bring my own reusable bottle?
thanks that was very helpful when I went to see my Nonna in Roma,Italia means a lot
Ma non è vero
Great piece of advice for all those tourists who are visiting Italy. Thank God, I don't find it so shocking because I was born in Argentina and 50% of the population of my home country have italian roots. All the things explained in this video apply to Argentina as well.
Best food in Italy, Agriturismo! Experience the flavors of the local cultivation of Italy's regions.
I can understand how Americans would have to adjust to the differences. I've always dined out with my relatives in Sicily where the food is awesome! Speaking the language and familiarizing with the culture helps a lot.
You're dope bro! Your videos are cool: we should hang out as I live in London too!
I'm speaking based off of my experience in Milan and not the rest of Italy, I've stayed there for quite a while with my girlfriend and the first thing we noticed is how lazy the local population is, to a point where it really isn't even feasible for a business! Most, if not all (with the exception of Chinatown), restaurants open for a MAXIMUM of 7-8 hours a day, 3 hours at lunch and the rest for dinner. I can understand why, they might see it as not profitable to be open during hours where people would probably not eat but you have to understand that Milan is a huge tourist destination and it's pretty stupid when foreigners might want a quick filling meal after 3pm but have to search to find a decent restaurant to eat at that isn't closed until 6/7pm. The even more atrocious thing is that most shops and supermarkets close at 9pm??? That's the earliest I've seen like ever for regular shops and supermarkets closing on a weekday, the only businesses that stay open way past those hours are the bars (obviously), the stores/restaurants run by people who aren't italian (like the chinese/indians etc.).
Excellent, accurate and very well done video. Complimenti!
In malta, the way waiters are trained, and bottled water in restaurants are a custom here as well. Never realised though, that abroad a waiter comes with the bill without you asking for it. So strange.
The same happens in Brazil, the waiter, water, staying until late just chatting. And at the end we always ask for a coffee 🙂
Amazing Tips! I will use them for my next trip to Italy! So excited!
Great video. I'm italian (from tuscany) and your explanations are correct.
