Apparently a lot of Trump style racists have commented before me; how disappointing of you narrowminded, bigots. Jesus would be embarrassed by you, I assume from the content you profess to be Christians.
Very much enjoying this discourse on Sicily, especially with my 100% Greek heritage. 23 and me has said that I am 25% Italian, but all my relatives are from the Greek mainland and Turkey. The Greek heritage in Sicily would account for this 25% perhaps. Meanwhile, I have to take exception to the amphitheater scene; “Much Ado About Nothing’ Benedick did not profess love for Hero, rather, he denied and then later professed love for Beatrice! Hero was the object of the affections of the youngster Claudio, protégé of Don Pedro,
I was expecting a documentary about Sicily. What I got was BBC propaganda pushing open borders, migration and the eventual dissolution of European civilization.
How much did ISIS pay you for this video, Mr. scottmann ?!
Me with my family and friends made grape's juice that way from the grapes of a friend's vine. The thing is that in order to make it cleaner we made plastic tubes and we put the grapes in it (looked like worms) and then we step until it was all smashed. Then we just opened a little hole in the plastic and all the juice came out nicely. I think the idea is quite similar. 🙂
Allowing zillions of unruly africans into Sicily….does not make Sicily more secure…..or for that matter, the rest of Italy and Europe…..Please save Sicily and the Italian mainland….Send back to africa all these criminals…before it will be too late…Enough problems in Italy as it is…..we did not need the import from africa.
BBC Gaslighting as usual ,African my ASS and Ceaser was black and so was the Roman Army and Cheddar man was black and James Bond will be black and Gwenevier is Black . Oh and Mary Beard says the Roman Empire celebrated Diversity I wonder what political affiliation she has? and Simon Schama says the same thing BUT EVEN MORE I wonder why?
BTW, Benedict realizes he is in love with Beatrix. Claudio is in love with Hero. Much ado about nothing? Yes. Good acting though.
N. African my ass, idiot.
"ITALIANS…It is often claimed that Italians, especially those from the South of the country, have substantial Middle Eastern and African admixture acquired during Roman times and the Moorish occupation. However, data from anthropology shows a prehistoric origin for the Mediterranean elements in Italy, and detects no Negroid influence there whatsoever. Genetic research confirms this, showing that both sub-Saharan and Arab-Berber admixture are negligible. The differences between Northern and Southern Italians have also been greatly exaggerated for political reasons. (Coon, 1939)"
Anthropology "Italy, one of the most clearly demarcated geographical units in Europe, is a country of considerable [sub]racial variability. Although the Mediterranean race is strongly represented in it,Italy belongs only partially to the Mediterranean world, for much of it is more typically Alpine racial territory. … The primary racial impulse of the early Neolithic, however, is known. This was the immigration of small Mediterraneans in great numbers, coming largely if not entirely by sea; these first food-producers were followed by more competent navigators, Atlanto-Mediterraneans, who settled chiefly in the north and in the islands, and Dinarics from the eastern Mediterranean in search of metal. Some of the Dinarics penetrated the Alpine Valleys while others settled in the Po Valley and in central Italy. The movement of highly cultured peoples from the east into Italy continued into historic times, and included the settlement of the Etruscans in Tuscany, and of the Greeks in Sicily and in the southern end of the peninsula. "…through her role as mistress of the world, Rome accumulated and assimilated a heterogeneous population. That this population was by no means purely or even predominantly Mediterranean is shown by the study of the skulls of Pompeians, victims of the eruption which turned their city from a metropolis into a museum. These crania, with a mean cranial index of 80, represent a population which had acquired a [sub]racial character of its own despite its mixed origin, and in which the Alpine element was the most important. … A series of 100 modern crania from Bologna, with a mean cranial index of 83.5, is almost purely Alpo-Dinaric, with the latter element in a position of prominence. The Dinaric race is common in northern, but not southern Italy, and this distinction has been true since the Bronze Age. "In other words, the southern Italians are a blend for the most part of Alpines and small Mediterraneans, while among the northern Italians the most important dolichocephalic strain is the Atlanto-Mediterranean. The association of relatively great blondism with brachycephaly merely indicates that both Alpines and Dinarics are characteristically mixed or intermediate in pigmentation. The few unaltered Nordics still found in northern Italy and in aristocratic families elsewhere are far outnumbered by Atlanto-Mediterraneans. … The binding element which is common to all sections is the Alpine, which has reemerged from obscure beginnings through a superstructure composed of Dinaric, Nordic, and various kinds of Mediterranean accretions." (Coon, 1939)"
BTW, I am not Sicilian.
Sexy presenter looks like Gerard Butler’s little brother 😍
Wonderful video. So happy he filmed around Agrigento, my grandparent's town. Such fabulous history.
The way u said Syracuse messes with my head
Mount Aetna had a recent eruption! In 1986 the mountain was dormant, thank god!
Another reason to eschew religion.
Its a childrens' cemetery….imagine 2000 years from now people discovering a pet cemetery and assuming its due to animal sacrifice. If they had been burying children there over many years, then it explains the shear numbers and with a temple near by devoted to childern. Romans were known for creating a propaganda campaign that discredited the Carthaginians as barbarians, and even going as far as to erase them from history- the Punic wars. The Carthaginians could not have established a powerful empire if they were continuously killing their offspring? So much for a BBC arm chair documentary.
what an exceptional beautiful mystical island ! A treasure to be discovered !! I have traveled 3/4 of this great Gaia and I can honestly say the 5 times I have visited Sicily it was always better than the first time !! Thanks to my M8 Graham for having introduced me to this treasure ! Cheers !
Esi io so dela Sicilia esi
Great documentary , taking into account all the historic proven facts about a beautiful island and its millenary history
I wonder if Sicilians realise just how Greek they are – or if Mussolini's famously aggressive anti Greek propaganda has made them feel they are non-Greek.
So beyond grateful that my late Italian husband who's Sicilian by blood but born and raised in Milan, lived in Milan, took me all over this island of Sicily. From Messina, Catania, Palermo, Agrigento, Taormina, Erice, Trappani, just eating and drinking, strolling in Cefalu every night before and after dinner, where his family is from and we stayed at his simple villa and vineyard in an area I forgot but you have to pass Finale and into all those valleys in order to go to his land. Thank you, amore mio!
