Mafia in Palermo (4K) / Italy Travel Vlog #227 / The Way We Saw It (VIDEO)
Today, a very different vlog from Palermo, Sicily.
We joined a tour called “No Mafia” learning about the history and presence of the Mafia and the civil antimafia movement whilst walking through the picturesque historic centre of Palermo to discover a city that is starting to rebel against the Mafia’s protection racket (Addiopizzo).
Follow us on this day discovering the myths, clichés and realities of organised crime in Sicily.
Feel free to leave a comment below. We are happy about your “thumbs up” or even a subscribe.
In this link you will find the stores and services that are members of the “AddioPizzo” movement and refuse to pay protection money to the Mafia: http://www.addiopizzo.org/index.php/pago-chi-non-paga/lista-imprese-addiopizzo/

Great video and beautiful Palermo!
U have organised crime in Germany… my mixed with finance and politics
It's also in Germany … money laundering..
I am very happy that you liked my city so much and i think your videos are really interesting and well done …plus you two give me a really kind vibe.
Yeah btw in here mafia is still a problem but like you said many enterpreneurs gathered togheter and created " addio pizzo" an antiracket organizzation after the death of" Giovanni falcone " sadly my city is known also for that but i am happy that people like you want to visit the same against all prejudices. And i hope you discovered more the kind and welcoming side of Palermo
Thank you for putting a light on this problem. It's very important that you as visitors not only enjoy the good things about Sicily but also try to understand better and from the inside the intricate dynamic of mafia and the efforts that some palermitans are putting to rebel against it. That's a smart way to travel and to know more about new places. It's also a good thing for us sicilians to get rid of old stereotypes that describe us just as victims. Instead, as you showed in your video, we are reacting and I hope that Addiopizzo can be an inspiration to all of the people that live similar situations in other countries. 🙂 Well done!
Awesome Video! Im with my partner in Uruguay right now, but Sicily looks amazing! Hugs!

Really interesting video👍🏼
Wawww so interesting this video! I thought that "mafia" had disappeared, but not! People from Palermos is very brave to do this movement against mafia, and so are you to comment all this interesting and danger things. When I went there the guide told us that in Sicilia the mafia doesn't fight against the ordinary people, but only other mafious groups, and that in Regio di Calabria it was worst, because they killed all kind of people who crossed through their way! But I remember in the hotel in Catania, a big and good hotel, the "Excelsior" beside my room, at 1 a..m arrived a lot of people, and played very loud music all the night! I could not sleep at all. I complained at the "reception" and told me that not to worry, the next night, it happened the same thing! I was very angry, and went to reception at 1 am to complain again, and told me just to change the room, at that hour! So l think they were mafious people! Congratulations Friends amazing video!
Very brave of the people to stand up to the Mafia that way! Brave of you to take the tour! You would think that the Mafia would "hit" the tour to get their point across, It's worrisome, but, if enough people gather together, perhaps they will overcome the Mafia in their town. Those merchants, though that have the stickers are saying in their way, that it's worth dying for, to be free of the suffocating, yoke, of the Mafia. More power to those courages souls!
Italians dont like stereotypes like that. For example a greek company exported sugar to Sicily in packages with a picture of the godfather movie, and the company had to apologise after italians outrage.
