SUBSCRIBE: http://www.youtube.com/c/VicStefanu – Let’s visit beautiful Lucca which is a city and comune in Tuscany, Central Italy, on the Serchio, in a fertile plain near the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is the capital of the Province of Lucca. It is famous for its intact Renaissance-era city walls.
Lucca was founded by the Etruscans (there are traces of an earlier Ligurian settlement) and became a Roman colony in 180 BC. The rectangular grid of its historical centre preserves the Roman street plan, and the Piazza San Michele occupies the site of the ancient forum. Traces of the amphitheatre still may be seen in the Piazza dell’Anfiteatro.

I went on my honeymoon to Italy in June and Lucca was one of the stops. Its such a gorgeous town. Such a nice different compared to super busy Florence.

I do not agree when you say it's a negative aspect having to pay to get into the churches. You have to consider the ancient monuments are very fragile and must be preserved for the new generations. Restoring a monument or a painting costs a lot. It requires very great skills and great experts. The Italian State can not bear all the expenses to maintain its immense patrimony. Do not complain if you have to pay a small amount of money, remember that even your son or your nephew will one day want to see what you today admire.

Lucca is a fantastic place to visit and although has tourists to us it feels to have a slower pace than the other outstanding Tuscan places of Florence, Pisa, Siena and San Gimignano
